THE HOME AND THE WORLD
Project Description
"I'm responsible for what I say, but not for what you understand." Sometimes, however, it is quite difficult to make oneself understood, especially between different cultures. In Bulgaria people shake their head to say 'yes'. If a German enters a train compartment they will sit down as far from you as possible, so as not to invade your personal space. But people from some others cultures may take offence. To communicate between cultures is a challenge, but it is also an adventure. In our project "The Home and the World" we want to embark on adventure and dare to change our perspectives on the world. With regard to the four different nations (English, French, German and Spanish) and four different denominations (Catholic, Lutheran, Calvinist and Adventist) of our four schools and the multi-cultural and multi-religious environment of each school, the project aims at generating a more profound understanding between the students from the different countries. Young Christians as well as students with Muslim, Jewish or other backgrounds will encounter each other, explore each others’ native towns and cultures and finally organize a multi-cultural event in Brandenburg (Germany). We want to stimulate the development of an overlapping perspective in three steps: from self-description to a look a the other and, finally, the communal organization of the big finale. This we call the interior, exterior and the shared point of view. So, read on and join in and let's share what is on our mind.
